Background
Katherine Cooligan is a partner and the Regional Leader of the Family Law Group
in our Ottawa office . Ms. Cooligan received her law degree from the University
of Ottawa and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1991. During the Bar Admission
Course, Ms. Cooligan was awarded the Abraham Lieff Scholarship Award for demonstrating
excellence in the skills required in family law practice.

- Ms. Cooligan has practiced in the area of Civil Litigation and specializes
in Family Law
Professional Experience
- Ms. Cooligan appears before all levels of Court, including the Superior
Court of Ontario and Ontario Court of Appeal
- In addition and as an adjunct to her litigation practice, Ms. Cooligan negotiates,
drafts and reviews all forms of domestic contracts, including Marriage Contracts,
Cohabitation Agreements and Separation Agreements
- Ms. Cooligan relies upon her training in mediation of matrimonial disputes
with CDR Associates in Boulder, Colorado, together with her Bachelor of Arts
Degree with a combined major in law and psychology to assist her in conducting
mediations

- Executive Member of the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association
- Member of the Advocates Society, Canadian Bar Association, County of Carleton
Law Association and Womens Law Association
- Former Member of the Regional Law Day Committee (4 years)
- Frequent chair and/or speaker of Continuing Legal Education Programs on
advocacy skills and substantive family law issues
- As an involved member of the Ottawa community, Ms. Cooligan has participated
on the organizing committee of many fundraising events, including Lawyers
for Kids and as a former board member of the Childrens Hospital
of Eastern Ontario Foundation. She is an annual volunteer at the CHEO Telethon
and Teddy Bear Picnic
