Firm Description

Our Washington, D.C. office is one of the city's largest and most established law practices, having grown from a single-lawyer enterprise founded in 1904 to an office of about 500 lawyers within a top-ten global firm of 2,500 lawyers.

Located within a few short blocks of the White House, the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan Lovells is distinguished by its depth of knowledge in issues facing regulated industries, with more than a century of institutional experience in dealing with U.S. federal law, whether in the federal courts, executive branch departments and agencies, or the U.S. Congress. A large number of our lawyers have worked in the federal government, often at high levels. We draw on our experience working at the intersection of business and government to help our clients navigate the increasingly complex legal and regulatory landscape.

Since our clients' most difficult problems often cross borders, we work alongside our colleagues in offices around the world to ensure that business decisions, litigation, and transactions are informed by up-to-date advice from experienced practitioners wherever the client is or wants to be. Our clients include a who's who of local, national, and international companies, as well as trade associations and other organizations with a need for assistance with regulatory and legislative legal issues, representation in the local or federal courts, or assistance from our top-ranked corporate practice.

As we've grown, we've retained strong ties to the values that have led to our success: client service, legal excellence, good citizenship, and a strong commitment to the industries we serve, including:

  • Education
  • Energy and natural resources
  • Financial institutions
