The largest portion of the firm's capital markets practice is based in New York and has been recognized worldwide in the areas of securitization, structured finance, debt and equity offerings and derivatives. Sidley has a substantial litigation practice in New York, with approximately 80 lawyers focused on all aspects of civil litigation, arbitrations and investigations. Our New York office has also handled some of the most significant securities litigation and SEC enforcement matters of the past several years, representing companies, financial services firms, professionals and individuals in high stake cases. Our litigation experience is strong in areas of particular concern to the financial community, including accountants liability, antitrust, bankruptcy, commercial transactions, consumer class actions, employee benefits, employment and labor, foreign corrupt practices, insurance, intellectual property, internal investigations, lender liability, white collar criminal defense and other complex matters. Moreover, our IP litigation lawyers routinely represent major pharmaceutical companies in a full range of litigation in the fields of patents, trade secret and unfair competition, false advertising, copyright and theft of idea and trademark litigation.
Many of our lawyers bring a wealth of experience from prior government service and leadership in key industry and professional associations. New York lawyers currently serve or have served in senior positions with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the NASD and as Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and serve on important committees, such as the Legal Advisory Committee for the Board of Governors of the New York Stock Exchange and the Securities Advisory Committee for the Ontario Securities Commission.
