According to the Phase I project manager, Mohammad Ali Shekar-khab, 94% of the work has now been completed, with 96% of the work finalized in the onshore refinery section and around 86% in the offshore section.
Shekar-khab also commented on the activities that were carried out in the implementation of Phase I between February 2002 and February 2003. During this period, offshore operations progressed by 22% and onshore operations by 12%. Two offshore wellhead platforms were erected and installed, the production platforms were constructed and made ready for installation, and the flare platforms were also completed and installed. The service units of the refinery were also made operational, which was a major feat in itself.
Shekar-khab added that other achievements that have already been realized during Phase 1 include:
Shekar-khab further noted that work is now back on schedule thanks to a concerted effort.
He commented that while the working groups involved in Phases I, II
and III of the project are currently working independently, they will eventually
have to work together on certain tasks, such as the construction of the pipeline
and the sulphur storage depot.
