Dealing with inflated claims by cargo interests
13/01/2010 Many owners of ships that use the port of Aden have faced exaggerated cargo claims by Yemeni receivers, particularly in respect of steel, timber and chemical cargoes. A reform programme has reduced the number of exaggerated claims and partly curbed the indiscriminate arrest of vessels, but shipowners should consider the pitfalls revealed by recent cases.
