Industry Update
The Ministry of Communications and Transport is seeking comments on a draft resolution that would allow cable companies to provide broadband internet access and other value added services. In other news, mobile operators will be required to maintain minimum quality standards and provide basic customer information, while Telmex has won its protracted appeal against its dominant carrier status.
Industry Update
The long-awaited Telecommunications Bill has been rejected by Congress and it is now unlikely that any such bill will be passed before the end of the year. Analysts have therefore advised that the telecommunications regulators be strengthened to meet the challenges facing the industry. In other news, a 10% special tax will be levied on certain telecommunications services.
