£250 million rolling stock acquisition Hitachi Europe Ltd, HSBC Rail (UK) Ltd, Strategic Rail Authority

The Strategic Rail Authority and HSBC Rail (UK) Ltd have agreed the acquisition of 28 new high-speed trains from Hitachi Europe Ltd for £250 million. The trains are expected to come into service in 2009 and will operate high-speed commuter services capable of reaching speeds of 140 miles per hour.
