Piotr Nowaczyk is a partner at Salans, a chartered arbitrator
and a former judge. He is an advocate (admitted in Poland and
France), a former president of the Court of Arbitration at the
Polish Chamber of Commerce (from 2006 to 2009), a fellow of
the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, a member of
the Swiss Arbitration Association and the German Institution
of Arbitration, a World Intellectual Property Organisation expert
and an independent consultant for the International Federation
of Consulting Engineers. He has also been an arbitrator with
more than 30 major arbitral institutions worldwide.
His main areas of practice include construction, investment,
natural resources, intellectual property, banking, military
industry, energy and joint ventures. He has more than 30 years’
experience in courtrooms and major arbitral institutions. He is
a member of the International Chamber of Commerce
International Court of Arbitration.
Mr Nowaczyk has built up the litigation and arbitration
department in the Warsaw office from scratch, dealing with
international arbitration, cross-border litigation and IP law.
He has acted as counsel or arbitrator in over 150 arbitral
proceedings under the arbitral rules or regimes of numerous
arbitral institutes (eg, the ICC, AAA-ICDR, CAC, CACI, CAS,
CCIR, CCP, CSGS, HCCI, ICANN, ICAC Kyiv, IACA, IHK, JCAA,
LME, MAC Minsk, MCAC Moscow, NAF, PCC, PIIT, Swiss Rules,
VIAC, WIPO, UNCITRAL) and other
ad hoc
arbitration.
He was educated at the University of Poznan (LLM, 1976)
and was a judge in the Polish courts from 1978 to 1981. He
joined the Polish Bar in Poznan in 1984, became a member
of the Canadian Bar Association in 1992, and was admitted
to the French Bar in Paris in 1993 and the Polish Bar in
Warsaw in 1994.
