Main practice areas
Antitrust
Carey y Cía has a proven track record of
securing clearance for complex M&A and
joint ventures. The firm’s antitrust practice
encompasses all areas of antitrust law,
including advising on regulatory compliance
and assessing operations from a free
competition point of view.
Banking and finance
The firm has a long tradition of representing
leading Chilean and foreign banks in
transactions of every kind, including secured
and unsecured syndicated loan facilities,
equity and debt securities offerings,
placements of debt securities, letters of
credit and other credit enhancement devices,
note purchase agreements, project financing,
structured products, debt restructurings
and derivative transactions.
Energy
Carey y Cía has worked on the implementation,
financing and refinancing of some of the major
energy, gas and oil projects in the country
(including hydropower, coal, liquefied natural
gas projects and non-conventional renewable
energies), advising the public and private
sectors. The firm provides a complete service
ranging from regulatory matters to M&A, joint
ventures, negotiation, project development
and financing, including the acquisition and
sale of electric, gas and oil assets and
industrial interests.
Engineering and construction
The firm is the market leader in this highly
specialised area, with a practice group devoted
exclusively to advising major international and
local clients carrying out construction and
engineering projects in Chile, whether as

early project inception to bidding stages,
contract preparation and negotiation, handling
of claims and dispute resolution in a taskforce
approach with Carey’s litigation practice

engineering, procurement and construction;

Government contracts
Carey y Cía handles all government
requirements for multinational contractors
and manufacturers in the defence, security,
gaming, construction and other regulated
and unregulated industries.
Intellectual property
In 2009 Carey y Cía’s IP practice merged with
premier boutique law firm Estudio Harnecker
to create HarneckerCarey. The practice’s
services include the prosecution and litigation
of trademarks, patents, utility models, designs,
copyright and domain names; licensing,
distributorship, agency and franchise
agreements; and tackling infringement and
unfair competition. In addition, the firm has
strong expertise in consumer protection and
product liability. In the pharmaceutical area,
the firm advises on areas such as patent
prosecution, litigation, antitrust and regulatory.
Labour and immigration
The firm is involved in collective bargaining in
different industries. It has vast experience in
hiring processes, compensation packages
(including stock-related plans), terminations
and mass lay-offs, labour auditing and legal
compliance, subcontracting, labour due
diligence, internal investigations and taxation
of employees. The team also provides
immigration services such as work contract and
temporary residence visas and work permits.
