James Calder is co-chair of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP’s
antitrust and competition practice.
Mr Calder’s antitrust practice includes litigation, mergers
and acquisitions, counselling and government antitrust
investigations. He handles matters involving price fixing,
market allocation, group boycotts and other horizontal
restraints, monopolisation, IP licensing and other IP issues,
industry-wide standard-setting efforts, vertical restraints,
distribution issues and Robinson-Patman Act problems.
His M&A work includes substantive antitrust merger analysis,
Hart-Scott-Rodino and foreign merger clearance compliance,
responding to US and foreign government merger investigations
and negotiating or litigating resolutions in contested merger
situations. He also advises on the structuring and operation of
domestic and international joint ventures and other collaborative
efforts among competitors.
Mr Calder also advises on deceptive practices, misleading
advertising, consumer protection and competitive tort issues.
He handles matters for clients in a broad range of industries,
including apparel, athletic equipment, aviation, beer, chemicals,
computer chip production, computer hardware and software,
computer games, consumer electronics, military electronics,
electrical carbon products, fertiliser additives, financial services,
fine art dealing, freight forwarding, healthcare, information
technology, internet search services, medical devices, milk,
motion pictures, music publishing, pharmaceuticals, radio,
recorded music, reinsurance, textile machinery and television.
Mr Calder’s litigation practice includes antitrust, competitive
