Biography
Elliott Simcoe is a partner in our Ottawa office. Mr. Simcoe has a broad range of experience in all aspects of intellectual property and computer law including litigation, licensing, prosecution and counseling, with an emphasis on patent, trade-mark and copyright litigation in the Federal Court of Canada. He has prepared, filed and prosecuted patent applications in the United States relating to the areas of electrical engineering, computer science, data encryption, data security and the telecommunication arts.
Mr. Simcoe has also advised clients on Canada's newly enacted Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. In addition, he has extensive experience in counseling clients and litigating matters involving the Internet, including copyright infringement, trade-mark infringement and related domain name matters.
The author of numerous articles published in International Internet Law Review, Trademark World and the Lawyer's Weekly, Mr. Simcoe is also a member of the editorial board of Copyright World, and a frequent contributor to that publication. In the winter of 2002, Mr. Simcoe began teaching a new course, Intellectual Property and Technology Law for Engineers, which he developed for the Department of Engineering at the University of Ottawa.
Mr. Simcoe is also a co-editor of the Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh's IP Perspectives.
