Martijn Snoep is the managing partner of De Brauw. Martijn specialises in EU and Dutch competition law. He is a litigator before European and Dutch courts and regularly defends companies against allegations of infringements of competition law or in civil damage claims as a result of those claims. He is also active as a competition lawyer in M&A work, representing clients before the European Commission and the Dutch competition authority, or coordinating merger filings before other competition authorities in cases involving complex economic issues. Martijn works closely with leading law firms in all jurisdictions around the world with merger control regimes in obtaining clearances for clients in an efficient and timely manner. He also coordinates or participates in multijurisdictional cartel investigations dealing with issues such as leniency, criminal liability for individuals, legal privilege, privacy rules, etc.
Martijn's litigating work in the area of cartels has led him to become more involved in corporate criminal defense and in internal investigations, also outside the area of competition law. For a number of clients he is involved in internal fraud investigations and in criminal defense cases concerning fraud, bribery and financial market regulations.
Martijn’s regular clients include a multinational oil company, an international chemicals company, a pharmaceutical company, a telecommunications company, and one of the largest retail banks in the Netherlands. He has also represented a number of media companies and several companies in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.
Martijn is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and he publishes on procedural and substantive issues of competition law. Martijn is the chairman of the Dutch Association of Competition Law since 2003, a very active professional organisation with more than 450 members including lawyers, economists, government staff and judges in the area of competition law.
