Under the legislative reform of Italy's professional bodies (in particular, Article 3(5) of Decree Law 138/2011, converted (with amendments) into Law 148/2011), anyone providing professional services is now required to take out an insurance policy covering the third-party liability that may derive from such services (for further details please see "Mandatory indemnity policies for professionals").
Presidential Decree 137/2012 established the regulation reforming the professional bodies. Among its provisions, Article 5 establishes that "the insurance obligation... becomes effective twelve months after the coming into force of this Decree" (emphasis added).
Therefore, professionals must comply with the duty to take out a professional insurance policy by August 7 2013.
