On 28 December 2019 new limits of liability under the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air (Montreal Convention 1999) came into force following the International Civil Aviation Organisation's review procedure under Article 24 of the convention.

On 11 October 2019 (via State Letter LE 3/38.1-19/70) the ICAO had announced its approval of the reviewed limits of liability in accordance with those that it had initially proposed on 28 June 2019, effective six months after said date.

The limits of liability were reviewed with reference to a 13.9% inflation rate with respect to the limits of liability in force since 30 December 2009, thus settling such limits in the following amounts, as expressed in special drawing rights (SDR):

Airlines should update their general conditions on carriage as well as information to passengers and insurance policies when needed, so that they reflect the revised limits of liability set out by the Montreal Convention.
