The Competition Council's main activities in 2016 included issuing opinions and conducting proceedings pursuant to requests filed by undertakings or ex officio. Of the 34 cases filed in 2016, the council issued:

  • five decisions determining prohibited agreements and abuse of dominance;
  • one individual exemption decision; and
  • 11 merger control decisions.

A total of 50% of the cases filed were processed in 2016, while the remaining cases have been carried over to 2017.

The council received 33 requests for an opinion and issued 22 expert opinions on various aspects of competition law in 2016.

There were no amendments to the Competition Act or implementing regulations in 2016, although there were continuous consultations regarding amendments in coordination with the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance's Support to Enforcement in the Area of Competition Policy.

Civil servants partook in 27 different training and educational workshops and seminars, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad.

The council signed a Telecommunications Services Cooperation Agreement with the Communication Regulatory Agency in February 2016.

The council's total income from administrative fees in 2016 was KM234,574 (approximately €115,000), while collected fines reached KM624,492 (approximately €610,000). These funds were transferred to the Bosnia and Herzegovina budget.
