On August 26 2015 the Commission for the Protection of Competition announced on its official website that it had issued a statement of objections to the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) for alleged prima facie violations of Section 6(1)(a) of the Protection of Competition Laws of 2008 and 2014, following the preliminary examination of a complaint filed by the company Primetel PLC.
The alleged prima facie infringements of Section 6(1)(a) concerned CYTA's dominant position in the retail pay television and retail broadband internet markets through the pricing of its retail pay television service Cytavision and DSL service between 2009 and 2010, undertaken with the aim of excluding its competitors from these markets.
The commission noted that the announcement was informative and non-binding. Further, it stated that the issue of the statement of objections does not predetermine the final outcome of the case or substitute the final judgment of the commission.
