The Competition Commission recently examined increases in air fares by certain private airlines, which appear to have taken advantage of the ongoing dispute between Pakistan International Airlines and the Airline Pilots Association.

The commission will investigate whether the private airlines have abused their dominant position or engaged in anti-competitive practices by taking advantage of the crisis at Pakistan International Airlines.

Section 3 of the Competition Act prohibits unreasonable and unjustifiable increases in the price of goods and services and empowers the commission to investigate exploitative practices in that regard.

The commission will conduct the inquiry and take action if any violation of the law is found during its investigation.
