On March 2015 the Commission for Protection of Competition issued two decisions in proceedings against East Media Group (EMG) because of a reasonable assumption that, during the purchase of 50% of the shares in Politika Newspapers and Magazines, a transaction had been implemented without obtaining merger control clearance despite the thresholds being exceeded.(1)

The commission fined EMG €143,500 for failure to comply with its order to deliver data and documentation required for the transaction's assessment. The commission referred the matter to the State Attorney's Office for examination of the validity of the share transfer agreement.
