The National Labour Inspectorate (NLI) has announced its inspection plan for 2020. The NLI is expected to conduct 72,000 inspections in 2020, most of which will be carried out by the District Labour Inspectorates in Katowice (9,436 inspections), Warsaw (7,682 inspections) and Wroclaw (6,775 inspections).

The NLI's 2020 inspection priorities are:

  • limiting violations of working time regulations;
  • reducing the level of fraud in the conclusion of civil law contracts with regard to conditions which are specific to employment relationships;
  • controlling the payment of remuneration resulting from the minimum hourly rate to persons employed under mandate contracts; and
  • ensuring compliance with the provisions regarding the conclusion of contracts for a definite period.

In 2020 the NLI announced increased inspections in the construction sector, particularly with regard to employers' compliance with health and safety regulations during works performed using tower and fast-erecting cranes.

In addition, the NLI has included the following areas of focus in its inspection plan:

  • compliance with the provisions regarding employee capital plans;
  • the payment of remuneration to persons who have maintenance obligations; and
  • the legality of employing foreigners (particularly in the hotel, catering and construction industries).
