The Bangladesh Energy Companies Association is now registered as a trading organization under Section 28 of the Companies Act 1994 and the Trade Organization Ordinance 1961.

The association is a Category A member of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The association brings together companies and other business entities that are involved in the extraction, transmission and distribution of natural gas, petroleum and related products, as well as the generation and distribution of electricity.
The association has elected its first executive body and proposes to function with the intentions of:
The association has elected Aziz Khan as its first president, and Ajam J Chowdhury and Tajul Islam Faruque have been elected as vice presidents. Tanvir Nawaz Khan is the secretary general.
