Quotas for the deputation of EU employees for more than four months are released quarterly at a federal level. Cantons must use the quotas at their disposal until they are exhausted and the next quotas are released.
In early August 2015 the Swiss authorities announced that the third-quarter quotas had been exhausted. Employers wishing to depute EU employees to Switzerland for more than four months must wait until the new quarter's quotas are released on October 1 2015 in order to obtain approval for work permits.
In the meantime, the authorities suggest applying for four-month work permits and 120-day work permits or to use on priority of the notification procedure.
