IVASS (the Italian insurance regulator) recently published Consultation Paper 7, which amended Regulation 5/2006 by introducing new methods for transmitting requests and communications required to maintain the Single Register of Insurance and Reinsurance Intermediaries. IVASS aims to provide a fully digital management system for the register.

To this end, the consultation paper proposes the requirement that insurance and reinsurance intermediaries adopt an electronic signature (advanced, qualified or digital) under Decree-Law 82/2005 for requests or communications relating to the register.

This obligation is expressly extended to foreign intermediaries listed in the register's appendix. The deadline for comments on the consultation was April 30 2016.
