On 26 April 2019 the law of 25 April 2019 was published in Mémorial A 271. The law has modified:

  • Articles L 232-2 and L 233-3 of the Labour Code; and
  • Article 28-1 of the Modified Law of 16 April 1979 establishing the General Status of Civil Servants.

The new law came into force retroactively with effect from 1 January 2019.

The law has increased the minimum statutory paid leave entitlement from 25 to 26 days a year. It has also declared Europe Day, celebrated annually on 9 May, a statutory public holiday.

Notably, the new law cannot "result in an automatic increase to more favourable statutory or contractual provisions applicable on the date on which it comes into force".(1)
