Over many years The Bahamas has built up a reputation as a responsible, committed and compliant jurisdiction and a leading financial services centre. Furthermore, The Bahamas remains committed to international standards on information exchange.
The Bahamas has endorsed the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) principles on information exchange and transparency. This commitment to international tax cooperation dates back to 2002, when it signed its first tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) with the United States.
On March 10 2010 Zhivargo S Laing announced that The Bahamas had signed TIEAs with each of the Nordic countries (Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), taking to 18 the number of such agreements to which it is now a signatory. It has since signed a further three agreements. Thus, The Bahamas has now exceeded the OECD required minimum of 12 TIEAs and is fully compliant with the OECD standard, and as such is now designated as a White List jurisdiction.
