The Department of Merchant Shipping has announced that the EU Marine Equipment Directive (2013/52/EC), which amended EU Directive 96/98/EC, has been transposed into Cyprus law by the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Order of 2014(1) and the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Notification of 2014(2), which were issued under the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Laws 2002 to 2006(3).
The Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Order replaces Schedule A of the Marine Equipment Laws with a new Schedule A. The new Schedule A is identical in text to Annex A of EU Directive 2013/52/EC. The Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Notification of 2014 sets out the equipment covered by Section 6(3) of the Marine Equipment Laws, which allows equipment to continue to be placed on the market and on board ships until December 4 2016 if it was manufactured in accordance with type-approval procedures already in force before the date on which EU Directive 2013/52/EC was adopted.
The Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Order and the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Notification took effect on December 4 2014.
