Jackie Midlane is co-head of Norton Rose South Africa’s
infrastructure, mining and commodities practice and a director
in the banking and finance department. Ms Midlane specialises
in project finance, structured finance, syndicated lending,
preference share finance, trade and commodity finance and
property finance. Within the banking and finance practice,
Ms Midlane heads the transactional team and leads on many
finance transactions with a particular focus on financial
institutions, energy, telecommunications and mining.
Ms Midlane is frequently listed as a leading lawyer in
Chambers Global,
where she has been described as
“intellectually rigorous, extremely thorough and really
understands the needs of the banks”. The most recent edition
recommends her for her work in structured finance and project
finance and describes her as “very hands-on and full of energy
and perseverance”. Ms Midlane has also been recognised in

as a leading lawyer.
Ms Midlane co-chairs the working committee of the South
African Loan Market Association, which converts English law
primary and secondary loan documentation into a suite of South
African law documents. This is a prestigious appointment and
secures the firm’s credentials as a top-tier banking and finance
practice in South Africa.
Ms Midlane is actively involved in the management of
the South African practice. She is a member of the firm’s
supervisory board and remuneration committee. She studied
at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she received a
bachelor of commerce degree and an LLB, as well as higher
diplomas in corporate and tax law.
