Charles Williams joined Thomas Cooper in 1979 and is
a senior partner based at the firm’s London office.
He specialises in shipping, trade and trade finance disputes,
in particular in relation to bills of lading and charterparties and
sale of goods disputes.
Mr Williams is a leading figure in contentious trade finance
matters. He is a visiting professor at City University, where he
lectures the LLM course on carriage of goods by sea. He also
lectures regularly for major commodity trade associations and
other commercial organisations.
Mr Williams is a member of the International Chamber of
Commerce UK Committee on Banking Technique and Practice,
the committee dealing with the uniform customs and practice
600, and the Commercial Court Committee on alternative
dispute resolutions.
He is former chairman of the British Maritime Law
Association Committee on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute
