As an independent full-service business law
firm, NautaDutilh practises Dutch, Belgian and
Luxembourg law. It employs around 400
lawyers, civil law notaries and tax advisers
from offices in Amsterdam, Brussels, London,
Luxembourg, New York and Rotterdam, and
works on a non-exclusive basis with other
leading law firms worldwide. The firm’s history
goes back to 1724. Since then, it has employed
the first female lawyer in the Netherlands and
produced entrepreneurs, politicians and even
a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. This says a lot
about the firm’s mentality. Its lawyers always
insist on putting law and legal issues in the
prevailing political, social and economic
context – an approach that has kept the firm
alert and up to date over the past few
Challenge the obvious
One question is always central to the firm’s
thinking: “Would we be our own client?”
NautaDutilh’s lawyers do everything they
can to ensure that the answer is always ‘yes’.
Based on its clients’ objectives,
NautaDutilh’s teams go in search of legal
strategies that make a real contribution to the
development of an enterprise. This means
taking the initiative, calling issues into question
and avoiding the conventional in favour of the
original. Independent thinking, creative ideas
and the individual dynamism of the firm’s
professionals make the difference between
mere competence and true excellence, and
set NautaDutilh apart from the rest.
Services and industries
NautaDutilh specialises in corporate, banking
and finance law. It is also known for its
expertise in the areas of tax, intellectual
property, competition, telecommunications
and media, commercial property and
insurance. Its partners have a longstanding
tradition of public service and working in
academia; at present, 13 people within the
firm hold professorships at leading universities.
NautaDutilh’s services focus on results – on
providing solutions and advice that help clients
to achieve their objectives. The firm was
already doing this as far back as 1795, when
it advised on negotiating a loan between Dutch
bankers and representatives of the United
States for the rebuilding of Washington DC.
To ensure that its clients have worldwide
access to the highest-quality legal talent
available, NautaDutilh teams up with the best
lawyers within and beyond Europe. The firm
provides a large number of national and
international clients with independent advice
on the most varied areas of law. It has
extensive experience in working with leading,
specialised practitioners in all major
jurisdictions and financial centres.
NautaDutilh’s clients are national and
international financial institutions, private
equity organisations, investment funds,
government organisations and companies
in various market sectors, including energy
and utilities, real estate, life sciences, private
equity, professional services and transport
and logistics.
